With spring right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to inspect your irrigation system and perform sprinkler repair if necessary. Austex Sprinklers has you covered with easy tips to help you conserve water and keep your landscape looking lush. A sprinkler inspection is essential when it comes to preparing your system for spring and ensuring it’s capable of handling your watering needs in the summer. If you don’t have a sprinkler system yet, sprinkler installation is necessary to ensure that your grass thrives in the warmer months.

It’s crucial to check and tune up your sprinklers for the upcoming warmer months. To ensure your sprinklers are working correctly in every zone, review and reset your timers/controllers at least once a month. Don’t forget to replace your controller’s backup battery every six months — just like changing the batteries in your smoke detector.

Want to keep your lawn looking lush and healthy without wasting water? An irrigation inspection prior to spring is the way to go. Not only will it save you money on your water bill, it’ll also help ensure that your sprinklers are performing at their best.

During an inspection, we’ll confirm that your sprinklers are applying water evenly to every inch of your lawn. This means checking that each sprinkler head is reaching the next one (head-to-head coverage) and that they’re positioned correctly. We can also perform necessary sprinkler repairs to avoid problems later on.

Five Tips for Spring Sprinkler Care

With these simple tips, you’ll have a beautifully maintained landscape. If you’re feeling lost and need help, just reach out to us at Austex Sprinklers and we’ll do everything to keep your irrigation system in tip-top shape.

1. Ensure Head-to-Head Coverage

To prevent water waste and guarantee that your grass gets the right amount of water, make sure the water from one sprinkler head reaches the next sprinkler head. This is known as head-to-head coverage and it’s essential for keeping your lawn and landscape looking healthy and beautiful.

2. Check Sprinkler Positioning

As you fine-tune your irrigation system settings, keep an eye on the positioning of your sprinkler heads. They should be perpendicular to the ground and straight up and down, not leaning to one side. If you notice that a sprinkler head is not positioned correctly, you can correct it by removing soil from one side and filling in the other.

3. Keep Your Sprinkler System Free of Obstructions

Over time, rocks, dirt, sand, and other debris can collect in your sprinkler lines, causing clogs that can lead to uneven water distribution. To prevent this, flush your system regularly by removing the nozzles from the last sprinkler head in each line and running the water long enough to clear each line. If you still notice clogs, clean the nozzles, filters, and screens and replace them if necessary.

4. Check for Wear and Tear

Regularly inspect your irrigation system for broken nozzles, cracked pipes, and other wear and tear that can cause water waste and higher water bills. Replace broken components as needed and adjust your spray patterns for optimal coverage.

5. Test Your Water Pressure

When first turning on your irrigation system, be sure to test the water pressure to ensure it’s at a safe operating range. Too much pressure can cause sprinkler head leaks, damaged valves, cracked pipes, and misting.
